Adventure Mum

I’m so glad you’re here to learn more about me. My name is Sonja, AKA Adventure Mum, and I’m a birth educator, doula, blogger, and mom of four with a passion for empowering women to have successful and healing birth experiences. It’s been quite the journey getting here, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

As a young woman, I never would have guessed that birth would become such an important part of my life. But after experiencing my own challenging births and seeing how many other women were struggling to find the support they needed during this transformative time, I knew I had to do something to help.

My first daughter was born in the hospital as it seemed the best thing to do. Everyone emphasized it would be safer and if anything went wrong there was help on hand. The result was a long (over 24 hours) birth, the baby delivered with forceps, me traumatized and hurt. I think that the one thing that I found more traumatizing than the fact that two nurses pushed the baby full force out of my belly, was that I was told to be quiet and was completely ignored in my wishes regarding the birth or painkillers.

That’s when I decided that this would never happen to me again and should not happen to others. So I decided to become a doula and online birth educator, and it’s been an incredible ride ever since.

My other children were born at home, two even in a birthing bath. No painkillers, no tears, no trauma, only love and harmony (still hurt like hell though).

So come along with me as we explore my story – from my doula journey to family life to my love of blogging and social media – and discover what makes me tick as Adventure Mum!

Overview

As a mother of four crazy kids and a lovely Boston terrier called Pippa, I understand the struggle that comes with balancing work and family life. That’s why I share my experiences, as well as of many others on my blog in hopes of inspiring other moms out there who are trying to do it all.

On Adventure Mum, you’ll find tips for everything from natural birthing techniques to fun activities to do with your kids. I’m passionate about empowering women through education so they can have confident and fear-free births as well as relaxed parenthoods.

And as a practicing doula myself, my journey has been full of amazing experiences that have allowed me to help even more women along the way. So let’s dive into my doula journey and see where it takes us!

My Doula Journey

I’ve been on an incredible journey as an online doula, empowering women to give birth with confidence and healing both mum and baby. It’s a journey that has taught me so much about the human experience and the power of education.

Through my work, I’ve discovered four key things that are vital in helping mums feel empowered during childbirth:

  1. Education: Knowledge is power when it comes to giving birth without fear.
  2. Support: Having someone there who understands what you’re going through can make all the difference.
  3. Choice: Every woman deserves to make her own choices about her birth experience.
  4. Trust: Trusting your body’s ability to give birth is crucial in feeling confident and empowered.

I’ve seen firsthand how these four elements can transform a woman’s birthing experience into one filled with strength and positivity. And while I may not be able to physically attend every birth, I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my knowledge through blogging and other platforms.

My doula journey has taught me so much about serving others, but it’s only part of my story. As a wife and mother of four (plus one adorable Boston terrier!), family life keeps me just as busy as my work does.

Family Life

Life as a wife, mother of four, and blogger keeps me constantly on the go, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! My family is my everything and I love nothing more than spending time with them.

Between school, extracurricular activities, work commitments, and household chores, there’s never a dull moment in our household. Despite the chaos that comes with having a big family, I feel incredibly blessed to have such amazing children and a supportive husband.

We make sure to prioritize quality time together as much as possible.

Whether it’s going on adventures in the great outdoors or simply snuggling up on the couch for movie night, our lives may be busy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Now, let me tell you about my passion for birth education…

Passion for Birth Education

As you delve into the section on my passion for birth education, you’ll discover a key that unlocks the door to confident and fearless childbirth, empowering women to experience healing for both mother and baby. My love for birth education stems from my belief that knowledge is power. With this in mind, I take pride in offering comprehensive birth education blogs that cover all aspects of pregnancy and childbirth.

Here are three things you can expect from my blog:

  1. A safe environment: As a doula, I understand how vulnerable pregnant women can feel during childbirth. That’s why I create a safe space where every woman feels heard and understood.
  2. Practical tools: From breathing techniques to pain management strategies, my classes provide practical tools that help women have a positive birthing experience.
  3. Emphasis on mental well-being: Pregnancy is an emotional journey as much as it is physical. In my classes, we explore ways to manage stress and anxiety so that women feel empowered throughout their pregnancy journey.

Now, let me tell you about how blogging and social media became an extension of my passion for birth education…

I realized that by sharing my knowledge and experiences online, I could reach a larger audience and help more women feel confident and informed during their pregnancies. Through my blog and social media platforms, I share tips for managing common pregnancy symptoms, information about different birthing options, and stories from mothers who have gone through the journey themselves.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the impact my words and advice have had on women all over the world, and I feel grateful to be able to use technology to connect with and support others on their pregnancy journey.

Blogging and Social Media

Blogging and social media have become an extension of my passion for birth education. Through these platforms, I’m able to reach a wider audience and help women feel confident and informed during their pregnancies.

It’s amazing to be able to connect with so many people from all over the world who share the same values and beliefs as me. Social media has also allowed me to share my own personal experiences as a mother, doula, and birth educator.

By sharing my stories, I hope to inspire others and let them know that they’re not alone in their struggles or triumphs. Blogging has given me a platform to discuss important topics such as natural birth, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and more.

It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next!

Conclusion

In conclusion, my journey as a birth educator and doula has been an incredible adventure. Through my experiences, I’ve come to realize that knowledge truly is power when it comes to childbirth.

By empowering women with the information they need to make informed decisions about their own bodies and births, I’m helping them pave the way for successful and healing experiences.

One of my favorite metaphors for this idea is that of a river. Just like a river flows freely and naturally, so too should birth be allowed to unfold in its own time and in its own way. But just as a river can be diverted or dammed up, so too can a woman’s birth experience be hindered by fear or misinformation.

By providing women with the tools they need to navigate their own paths through childbirth, I’m helping them stay on course towards a beautiful and fulfilling destination.

As I continue on this journey, I look forward to connecting with more women who are seeking support and guidance on their own adventures into motherhood. Whether it’s through my blog or in person, I’m honored to play even a small role in such an important part of their lives.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me better!
